Obituary 1972

Sunil Verma passed away September 26, 2022

By his Batchmate Anil Arora September 26, 2022

Dearest Patelians – We lost a most magnificent fellow Patelian Sunil Verma- AE – 1972, Om Shanti.

Sunil Verma had been appointed Member Finance of Jharkhand Energy Regulatory Commission after retiring as Joint Comptroller and Auditor General of India about a decade back. . About 6 years back, while he was in excellent health and full of energy, he suffered from acute dementia and developed some health issues. Thereafter he remained under doting care of his beloved wife and daughter in Defence Colony, Delhi. He was recently hospitalized for health complications in Apollo Hospital, where he breathed his last. I learnt about it from facebook obituary note inserted by his daughter Gayatri. Sunil’s wife Preet too was an IA&AS  Officer of the rank of Additional Secretary with Govt. of India. Sunil and myself grew together and remained in constant touch right from entering PHR at the age of 16, till his unfortunate and cruel demise. I shall be sharing in bits & parts, some interesting memories of our days together. I am presently in Houston in USA, and my heart bleeds from the loss of a very dear friend. Here is picture shared by his classmate K Mohan from his Patel Hall days

Rajan Saigal Passed away on June 29, 2019

Here is a note from hemen

Dear all

I am extremely sad to inform you that Rajan Saigal (EE/1972/Patel Hall) a veteran Patelian and President – Patel Hall in 1971 – 72
passed away, all of a sudden on Saturday, 29th June early morning in his sleep.

There was no apparent cause as he was not unwell and therefore he did not suffer but the suddenness of his demise has unnerved us all,
only underlining, sharply, the uncertainty of life and our total lack of control over it.

Rajan was my batch mate (as also of Sudhir Kapdi, Sampoorna Banga and Vinod Prasad) and the elder brother of Ashok Saigal (EE/73/Patel Hall))
whom many of would know.

We all pray for peace to the departed soul and strength to his family to cope with this huge and sudden loss.

Message from Ashok Saigal

Dear all Patelians

Thanks for all your messages which have touched me and remind me how fortunate I was to have a brother like him. He lived not far from me. It was amazing how we were always on the same wavelength.

I have shared your messages with his family, and they have greatly appreciated them, specially the nostalgic photographs.

Fred Vandrevala flew down from Mumbai on hearing about Rajan. Finney Thomas, Bhupinder Sabharwal, John Abraham (UK), and DD Anand (Australia) have also sent messages.

I have attached a recent picture of Rajan.

Thanks again, dear Patelians.

Ashok Saigal

Cause of death is unknown (lay down on the couch and never woke up). He was working at GE aircraft engines in Cincinnati after completing his PhD.
